Thank you for your interest in volunteering to help our senior and homebound neighbors. To begin volunteering, submit a Volunteer Interest Form.

We have many different volunteer opportunities to select from Monday-Friday:

• Meal Delivery Driver – pick up meals between 10:00 – 11:30am – typically complete in 2 hours.
• Kitchen – place food in trays in assembly line – shift starts at 9:30am, usually finished by 11:00am
• Administrative – answer phones and data entry, starts at 11:30am-2:00pm
• Event Planning Committee – join our fundraising committee – Planning meetings for our March For Meals luncheon are held monthly.
• Outreach Team- Help out at community events to promote our mission and recruit clients or volunteers.

Volunteers make a difference every day through their smiles and more. In order to provide the best experience for those we serve, we need dependable and caring people. The quality of our program and ability to expand our service to the community depends on your reliability. Some of the most valuable benefits are intrinsic, such as:

All volunteer drivers must be at least 18 years of age, have a valid driver’s license, a vehicle, proof of auto insurance and agree to a background check. Those under 18 may volunteer by riding along with a guardian, parent or friend, or by helping in the office.

We accept all different types of groups ranging from families, businesses, foundations, civic, religious, etc. Please let us know ahead of time so we can find a good day to schedule you.

You can choose to volunteer as much as you would like. We just ask we schedule you before you show up. Get started by filling out a Volunteer Application.

Our first priority during a storm is your safety and the safety of our recipients.

Meals on Wheels of Sarasota may cancel delivery if the weather is hazardous and/or there is flooding. Scheduled volunteers will receive an email, call or text if their route is cancelled and staff will call to notify recipients and volunteers if service is cancelled for that day. Local radio and TV stations may also announce the closing for Meals on Wheels of Sarasota. 

Note that the Meals on Wheels of Sarasota phone system is cloud-based and
should continue to function during emergency situations.

We cannot guarantee that we can fulfill your volunteer hours requirement. However, if you reach us with plenty of notice, we will do our best to find you a meaningful volunteer experience. If your skills and experience are a good match for us, we will try to make sure your volunteer experience can be applied to your service requirements.

We do not accept court ordered community service.

Drivers:

Please arrive after 10:00 AM. You may use our parking lot if you are waiting for your box to come out.

All other volunteers:

Please park at the church with the red roof next to our building. Our space is limited and we try to reserve it for our delivery drivers.
