April is Volunteer Appreciation Month across the nation. In 2024, we had 440 volunteers and each week we have the privilege of 200 volunteers who help us in the kitchen, pack, and deliver all of our meals. Let’s learn a little bit more about the incredible volunteers here at Meals on Wheels of Sarasota!
Meet John:
John helps us in the kitchen and packing every single week! In this photo, he is helping us build some of the boxes that our delivery drivers use to deliver meals.
When asked why he chose Meals on Wheels he told us: “I enjoy helping out in the community. I love to help and work with a variety of people and meet people from all walks of life”
Meet Rachel:
Rachel packs and drives for us every single week. When asked for why she volunteers at Meals on Wheels Rachel said:
“Being active and out in the community and meeting other volunteers or clients is why I choose to volunteer at Meals on Wheels.”
A little fun fact about Rachel is that she is following in her parent’s footsteps. They used to volunteer at Meals on Wheels in Iowa!
Meet Vicki:
Vicki has volunteered with us for 5 years as a south route driver. When asked why she volunteers with Meals on Wheels she said:
“People are hungry. It is a small sacrifice I can make for them.”
A fun fact Vicki also shared is that by doing her route she has learned a lot more about the community in Sarasota.
