SARASOTA – April 23, 2018 – Serving 160,000 meals each year to Sarasota’s homebound seniors, Veterans and mentally and physically handicapped is a daunting task considering the service is not duplicated by any other service organization or charity. However, thanks to a dedicated team of volunteers, Meals on Wheels of Sarasota continues to fulfill its mission since being created in 1971.
On April 18th at the Sahib Shrine Auditorium, the organization recognized more than 200 volunteers and its staff and Board for their importance to the Sarasota community and their unparalleled contribution to the homebound.

Said Marjorie Broughton, executive director, “Meals on Wheels of Sarasota is unique – providing nutrition to those who most need it, visiting those who are alone and isolated, providing health and safety checks to those whose plight is overlooked in our society.
