Planned Giving

Keep the Wheels Turning! Ensure that Meals on Wheels can continue to nourish and support Sarasota with its services through your gifts. Here are ideas for your consideration - meet with your advisors for their advice about:

Your Will or Living Trust: Arrange a charitable bequest for Meals on Wheels in your will or trust. The process is simple and inexpensive. Just add your bequest the next time you have your will or trust reviewed by your attorney. Call us for a copy of our Bequest Information Sheet.

Life Insurance: If you have an existing life insurance policy, you can name Meals on Wheels of Sarasota, Inc. as a beneficiary for any percentage. If your policy has cash value and you no longer need it, you can donate the policy directly to the organization and you can claim an income tax deduction for its value.

Charitable Remainder Trusts: If you have highly appreciated assets like real estate or stock, a charitable trust might be considered. The trust pays you income for life and leaves the remaining assets to the charity of choice as a gift at the end of your life. Plus these trusts can provide remarkable tax savings.

Savings Accounts and CD's: You can make arrangements for the balance to go directly to the organization at your death with a Payable-on-Death account from your savings account or your certificate of deposit (CD). Ask your bank for the proper paperwork. This is a simple process that bypasses probate.

IRA: You can make a gift from your IRA or other retirement plans. You can name Meals on Wheels as a beneficiary to receive a portion of the balance at the end of your life by simply signing a Change of Beneficiary Form.

Stocks: Transfer shares of stock and mutual funds directly to Meals on Wheels of Sarasota, Inc. If your shares have appreciated in value, avoid capital gains tax and still earn a deduction and donor recognition for the fair market value of the donated stock. Set up your investment account as a transfer-on-death account, so that the balance will come directly to Meals on Wheels upon your death.
